EEF are expanding and we currently have an opportunity for a Higher Education Programme Lead to join our engineering education team, based from our world-class, state of the art facility in Aston, Birmingham.

 

EEF are the UK’s leading trade body focused on the Manufacturing and Engineering Sector: we offer a range of professional services to companies throughout the industry and have an extensive training and apprenticeship programme. We are Ofsted grade 2, RoATP approved and have an apprentice completion rate of 85%.

 

As HE Programme Lead you will manage the delivery of the HE programme by working closely with the Centre Manager, Assistant Centre Manager, BTEC Lead, Quality Manager and Lead IV, to ensure that the delivery of the HE Programmes are of the highest quality. You will plan and instigate setting up and delivery of HE courses. This may initially be in conjunction with an existing provider, but by year 2, the intention is that the Centre is accredited to deliver in its own right.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Centre Manager and QM to ensure quality of the HE delivery is high
  • OfSTED lead for the HE courses
  • To act as the programme lead for all HE delivery and produce course reports of awarding bodies and OfSTED
  • To develop schemes of work, lesson plans and assignments that meet the requirements of the appropriate Awarding Body and the Centre’s customers
  • Develop course materials including handouts and other supporting documents
  • Deliver HE teaching to apprentices and commercial students to a high standard and to challenge and motivate colleagues to achieve high standards (also BTEC L3 where required)
  • Create a motivational learning environment
  • To assess learner progress by various means and provide feedback and reports
  • To ensure teaching and learning is compliant with OfSTED, LSC, Awarding Body, H&S and the Centre’s criteria
  • Carry out teaching observations of HE staff and produce written feedback for the purpose of improving the quality of teaching delivery
  • Maintain learner discipline in compliance with the Centre’s Disciplinary codes and practices
  • Maintain learner records
  • To act as a First Year cohort tutor as required

 

Skills & experience:

  • Similar experience in leading or managing a Higher Education programme
  • A time served apprenticeship or other relevant industry experience; a minimum of Level 5 Engineering qualification; a teaching qualification and recent teaching experience delivering engineering subjects at HE/Foundation Degree level – ideally in mechanical engineering or mechanical maintenance.
  • Delivery training and assessment activities in accordance with current national standards and best practice.
  • Business and industry knowledge
  • Recent industrial experience, with knowledge of current industry and best practice standards.
  • Leadership and people development skills
  • Empathy with young people, ability to plan, deliver training and assess outcomes. 
  • The ability to influence and inspire colleagues and students.
  • Good presentation and communication skills
