EEF has an exciting opportunity for an Economist to join our well established, well connected team in Central London.

EEF is the UK’s leading trade body focused on the Manufacturing and Engineering Sector. We offer a range of professional services and work with a broad range of businesses, including world-class, blue-chip organisations. We also support our members by representing them at Government, ensuring the sector remains in both the Government and media spotlight.

Working within our Economics team, you will play a fundamental role in EEF’s analysis and forecasts of the economy and UK manufacturing. The team is a fast moving, highly visible and credible unit; providing insight and analysis of the economy and manufacturing to member firms, government officials and media outlets.

 

The role will expand as the needs of our in-house economic team evolve and as such we are looking for someone who is keen to develop an expertise in business economics, economic policy and the manufacturing sector.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

-       Develop and prepare EEF publications, briefings and blog posts on the state of the economy, UK manufacturing and individual sectors

-       Provide up to date analysis and forecasts to the Economics department, regional offices and member firms

-       Take responsibility for developing policy areas to support productivity and competitiveness of UK manufacturing in consultation with EEF members and stakeholders.

-       Work with EEF’s external affairs team to develop relationships with appropriate external agencies and government officials.  Communicating information on the shape of manufacturing and EEF policy positions. 

-       Develop responses to government enquiries and consultations.

-       Contribute to the work of EEF policy committees and regional council network. 

-       Represent EEF in the media on economic issues.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have/be:

-       A degree or equivalent level in economics or an economics-related discipline.

-       Highly numerate with excellent communication skills

-       Skilled in analysing and manipulating data and statistics using spreadsheets and databases

-       Ability to relate to people at all levels and to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences

-       Familiarity with economic forecasting models and survey analysis tools and techniques would be an advantage

-       It would be beneficial to have experience in a political lobbying or campaigning organisation

-       A demonstrable interest in manufacturing and the issues facing the industry

-       A flexible and team orientated approach to work
