EEF has a unique and challenging opportunity for a Senior Energy Policy Adviser to join our well established, well connected team in London.


EEF is a membership organisation and the UK’s leading trade body focused in the Manufacturing and Engineering Sector. We offer a range of professional services to our members and also to non-member organisations - principally HR & legal, health & safety, climate & environmental advisory, and training & consultancy.


In this role you will advise EEF and its members on the complexities of the energy market and energy policy, and how they affect manufacturing and its use of energy. You will also work with government to discuss the impacts on industry of energy policy, markets and legislation.

 

EEF is a prominent organisation and this role will provide you with a high level of visibility; you will work with a large number of organisations and stakeholders, including well-known brands within our membership, and gain exposure to various levels of government and on occasion the media.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

-          Monitoring and proactively leading discussions on market, policy and legislative developments in energy supply, energy management and decarbonisation. This will range from high-level topics such as carbon budgets to the details of market arrangements such as triads

-          Updating members and presenting clear analysis on the above topics

-          Being a subject matter expert and first point of contact with government departments and agencies

-          Presenting EEF’s views and recommendations to key decisionmakers and stakeholders and the wider press/social media, including responding to government consultations and parliamentary inquiries

-          Coordinating the steel industry’s climate change agreement

-          Carrying out research as needed and contributing to EEF’s highly regarded policy reports

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

-          In-depth knowledge of UK energy markets, policy and legislation (essential). It would be beneficial to also have an understanding of EU legislation, policy and processes

-          Experience of working in a policy focused role, or sufficient transferrable skills from roles in industry, government, or elsewhere. Experience leading successful policy campaigns would be particularly advantageous

-          A working knowledge of manufacturing, including energy intensive sectors, would be advantageous, but is not essential

-          Confident communicator, who can present technical information to a varied audience

-          Excellent written skills, that can be adapted to a range of audiences and formats

-          A high degree of numeracy

-          A degree or relevant profession qualification/experience

 

Based in London, with occasional travel in the UK and to Brussels.
