EEF has an opportunity for a Senior Legal Adviser with experience in employment law, to join our well established team in the South; based out of our Reading office approx 2-3 days a week and helping to provide cover across the south region, up to the M4 corridor, including Bristol.

 

In this role you will work under the direction of, and in conjunction with, our Principal Adviser and Regional Head of HR & Legal, to provide employment law advice and assistance to our clients and to also give legal support to other EEF departments.

We offer a range of professional services to our members and also to non-member organisations - principally HR & legal, health & safety, climate & environmental advisory, training & consultancy.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Meet with member companies and client’s, whether on site or at the company premises.
  • Provide legal advice orally and / or in writing
  • Draft settlement agreements and negotiate settlements
  • Draft contracts of employment, policies, procedures and other employment related documentation.
  • Draft and advise upon restrictive covenants, non-competition, non-solicitation, etc. generally and their enforceability.
  • Advise upon and conduct County Court proceedings regarding employment and employment related matters.
  • Conduct and prepare all aspects of Employment Tribunal litigation, including drafting of all papers, negotiating with third parties, conciliating via ACAS, preparation of bundles, drafting witness statements, drafting submissions, attendance at preliminary and full hearings and advocacy.
  • Prepare and undertake the delivery of training and briefings/workshops to member companies
  • Assist the Principal Adviser and Regional Head of HR & Legal to enable them to achieve their objectives and other Advisers as and when so requested.
  • Work closely with all internal departments in the retention and recruitment of members, particularly for mid-market accounts and key accounts.
  • Manage and/or service accounts in conjunction with fellow staff to required levels as and when required.
  • Identify and process fee-paying opportunities.
  • Undertake consultancy work generally and in particular for HRC / Employee Relations work and other business units as and when requested.
  • Give comprehensive and timely advice via our Advice Line to member companies/clients on all matters pertaining to employment law and employee relations as and when requested.
  • Maintain a high standard of professional knowledge and continuous improvement.

 

To be successful in this role, you will have:

 

  • Post-Qualified Experience in employment law and commercial law
  • Experience of advising clients in employment law, employee relations, human resources and commercial law
  • Demonstrable employment tribunal experience and civil court experience
  • Experience of drafting documentation including restrictive covenants, service level agreements, director contracts and non-disclosure agreements.
  • Knowledge of Employment Law including employee relations, human resources and trade unions
  • Experience of any of the following areas would also be beneficial: immigration, pensions, mediation
  • Knowledge of the Manufacturing sector would be highly beneficial
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – both written and verbal
  • Strong IT skills (specifically Outlook, Word and Internet)
  • As the role requires travel to meet with clients a UK driving licence is required
